A new event, ‘Speak Up Investigations – The Pitfalls and Hurdles’ launched today in line with International Fraud Awareness Week (12th – 18th of November). The event which is the first of its kind in Ireland is taking place Wednesday the 10th of January 2018 in the Camden Court Hotel in Dublin. Speakers at the seminar include Gillian Harford – Head of HR Strategy & Planning AIB Group, Niall Fitzgerald – Head of Ethics & Governance Chartered Accountants Ireland and Dr Tom Clonan- Academic (DIT), Journalist and Carer.
This must-attend seminar will facilitate businesses in how they should review the controls that need to be put in place to manage the potential likelihood and impact of speak up allegations and complaints made in their companies.

The seminar which is organised by new company director Michael Fitzgerald, former Head of AIB’s Special Investigations Unit, set up the new business in order to provide training, risk assessment and investigatory services to businesses.
Michael said ‘The danger of internal fraud is ongoing and potentially cannot be managed by untrained individuals and training events such as this are key to support sound governance in a company.’
The event which is aimed at individuals and business will outline how speak up investigations can be managed, speak up strategy from an ethics and governance perspective and applying and implementing sound speak up protocols and/or processes. This seminar will look to understand what process should be followed from day one through to closure of a speak up complaint /report.

Michael has 30 years’ financial services experience, which over the last 20 years has concentrated on fraud management roles within the largest institutions in the financial sector in both the UK and Ireland.
Work experience relating to internal fraud has ranged from investigative work, including investigating complex multi-million-pound cases, to implementing fraud strategies for multinational banks. Michael has also investigated and manged out on a number of speak up cases in both the UK and Ireland. Michael is qualified with a Masters in Fraud Management and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Michael set up Fraud Business Solutions as he observed that the threat of internal malpractice is a real risk to the solvency and profits of any company.
