Wednesday the 10th of January, 2018 will see ‘Speak Up Investigations’ seminar which is the first of its kind in Ireland, is a must-attend seminar is for anybody who is keen to understand developments in management of speak up investigations, speak up strategy, applying and implementing speak up protocols and/or processes. This seminar will look to understand what process should be followed from day one through to closure of a speak up complaint /report.
Fraud Business Solutions will convene an array of leading speakers from across the industry and beyond to help you identify key fraud risks and review the controls that need to be put in place to establish the potential likelihood and impact of fraud on the company.

Gillian HarfordHead of HR Strategy and Planning with AIB
Gillian Harford is Head of HR Strategy and Planning with AIB, and has been a HR Professional for more than 30 years. She has been responsible for driving a range of HR initiatives including strategic resourcing plans, progressive HR policies and Career and Reward systems. She has a strong interest in the development of policies and practices to support modern inclusive cultures in the workplace, with particular emphasis on Diversity, Conduct and Safe to Speak and she currently oversees AIB’s Speak Up channel for more than 10,000 employees. Gillian has also worked on a number of external working groups on Diversity and the Future of Work, on behalf of AIB, CIPD and the 30% Club.
A native of Dublin, Gillian lives in South Dublin with her family. She holds a BA in Economics and Psychology and an MBA from Michael Smurfit Business School UCD.
She is a fellow of CIPD, a fellow of the Institute of Bankers and a member of the Board of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
Michael FitzgeraldDirector – Fraud Business Solutions
Michael has 30 years’ financial services experience, which over the last 20 years has concentrated on fraud management roles within the largest institutions in the financial sector in both the UK and Ireland.
Work experience relating to internal fraud has ranged from investigative work, including investigating complex multi-million-pound cases, to implementing fraud strategies for multinational banks. Michael has also investigated and manged out on a number of speak up cases in both the UK and Ireland. Michael is qualified with a Masters in Fraud Management and is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Michael set up Fraud Business Solutions as he observed that the threat of internal malpractice is a real risk to the solvency and profits of any company. Fraud Business Solutions observes that this danger is an ongoing one that cannot be effectively managed by untrained individuals within a company, hence the reason for today’s event.
Níall FitzgeraldHead of Ethics and Governance, Chartered Accountants Ireland
As Head of Ethics and Governance in Chartered Accountants Ireland Níall has responsibility for leading the development of policy and embedding of matters relating to business ethics and governance across operations. Níall is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Consultant, having qualified and worked with PwC.
Níall has also worked in consulting, where in addition to providing a wide range of professional service firm advisory services he has also provided director induction and board committee training. His role as a consultant also involved advising qualified accountants on implications arising from regulatory inspections, investigations and disciplinary complaints processes from various supervisory and regulatory authorities. While the author of procedure manuals relating to Anti-Money Laundering, Audit and Professional Services Niall also has wide experience in the provision of professional development training courses.
Dr Tom ClonanAcademic (DIT), Journalist and carer who campaigns for equality for children and adults with disabilities
Dr Clonan is one of Ireland foremost whistle-blowers. As an Army Officer in Irelands Armed Forces, Dr Clonan complete groundbreaking doctoral research on the Irish Defence Forces (2000)
His PhD led to an independent government enquiry, “the study review group” which reported in 2003. This report fully vindicated his research findings and recommendations as they applied to bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assault of soldiers within Irelands Armed Forces. Dr Clonans work has transformed the equality culture of the Irish Armed Forces with identifiable and measurable benefits for over 20,000 full and part-time soldiers, sailor’s and aircrew.
Dr Clonan is also a Security Analyst with the journal.ie – along with the national and international broadcasters – where he provides in-depth defence and military analysis of fast-moving international events. Dr Clonan has given talks on Whistleblowing and Whistle-blower reprisal to a wide range of organisations and institutions in the public, private and financial services sector.
